历史沿革  

　　1974年，苏格兰把传统上的32郡2岛区全部撤消，改设为9个行政区（Region）和3个地区（Area，在海岛上），9个行政区下分53个区（District）。其中斯特拉斯克莱德区Strathclyde人口最多，格拉斯哥所在。
　　1996年，重新调整为32区（Unitary District）。在人口密集的苏格兰谷地，相当程度上是恢复了1974年以前的传统甚至拆分的更厉害，而在南北两侧人口过疏地区，则大体继承了1974年以来的建制。
